TAWAU: Petronas is offering scholarships to 350 Sabah students to pursue in specific engineering disciplines.
Education Sponsorship Unit of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP)-Local Executive Mohd Zamrul Azuar Md Ali said the scholarship is open to 2011 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia candidates with excellent academic background as well as proven leadership qualities through active participation in extra-curricular activities, social and volunteerism.

Zamrul said more than 10 sponsorship programmes were open to undergraduates at UTP or foreign universities.

For every successful applicant, Petronas will give out scholarships worth RM300,000 to RM500,000 for undergraduate programmes at foreign universities and RM100,000 to RM125,000 at UTP.

“The undergraduate programmes are related to  engineering, neither technical nor non-technical programme such as ICT.

“Hence, we are carrying out a  scholarship roadshow in Tawau, Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu to identify the SPM 2011 excellent students and assist them to fill in the application forms.

“After that, we will key in the stated data to our computer system before carrying out ranking process. An edu-cast session will also be held probably in mid-April after the ranking process to select the successful applicants for the scholarship,” he pointed out at the roadshow held at the hall of SJK © Sin Hwa here yesterday.

According to him, they carried out such scholarship roadshow in Sabah last year and it received a great response from students and parents.

Zamrul also noted that the Petronas scholarship application is open to all the SPM 2011 top scorers in Sabah from March 21-28 this year.
